Episode 7 (Part I): A Good Crisis?

This episode is dedicated to all the fans out there who angrily posted “FAKE NEWS!” every time we dared to talk about polling in the 2020 US Presidential race. Although the polls leading up to the 2016 win by Donald J. Trump suggest a significant democratic bias, they were not quite as fake as then candidate Trump tried to say they were. We talk briefly about why polling is frequently inaccurate with such subjects as sampling bias and the assumptions that lead to that sampling bias. We also follow in some detail the Gallup poll of President Trump’s approval rating since his inauguration in 2017 until around mid-2020, and how it seems to closely mirror not his actions, but more the mainstream narrative surrounding his actions. This does not mean the absolute polling numbers are true, but instead suggests it is the trends that we should be concerned with. What the polls really seem to tell us is the effectiveness of the false narratives being peddled by the mainstream media. You will note that as each election approaches - even the midterms - there is always some crisis being peddled. That is a sign that we should both remind ourselves and warn others that the latest, most terrible story about Donald Trump is probably false, and meant to manipulate swing voters. The key to manipulate these voters is to always create a crisis around whatever it is that Donald Trump is near, and make him responsible for it. If its not the coronavirus spreading, its the border crisis. If its not the border crisis, its the muslim ban. And the list goes on and on. Fake news! Original air date: July 30, 2020. Running time: 30 minutes 48 seconds.
